Welcome Students and Families
President Sabah Randhawa
Congratulations on your academic success, and welcome to the start of your journey at Western! I hope the time you spend here, from your first quarter until you graduate, is full of engaging learning experiences, self-discovery, and enriching personal connections within our campus community.
For those of us who work at Western—more than 2,000 faculty and staff serving in a huge variety of roles inside and outside of the classroom—our common purpose is to advance three important goals related to your education:
First, we are committed to advancing the success of all students joining Western, to ensure that each of you has the opportunities and the resources you need to be successful at Western and beyond.
Second, we are committed to increasing Western’s impact in Washington State by expanding access to our programs, striving to meet the state’s needs for a skilled workforce and engaged citizenry, and preparing our graduates to make a positive impact in their communities.
And third, we continually strive to enhance the quality of our educational programs and learning experiences for every student, which I hope was a key factor that helped you choose Western.
Please know that you are joining a university community committed to respect, kindness, and compassion, a place where we all take responsibility for advancing a culture that values the dignity and humanity of each one of us. We are also committed to providing an intellectual atmosphere in which diverse perspectives and viewpoints are welcome, critically examined, and engaged with civility and respect.
Advancing and embracing diversity of identity and thought is not only an integral part of Western’s mission, but also critical to preparing you to succeed in an increasingly diverse and interconnected world.
Thank you for choosing to be a part of Western! We are excited to help you achieve your goals, and to see how you will use your Western education to make an impact in the world.
Sincerely,
Sabah Randhawa
President
