Orientation and Welcome Events

Welcome to Western!

New student and family orientation is not one singular event, but “a collection of events, programs, experiences, and services designed to support new students as they acclimate to higher education” (NASPA: Student Affairs Administrators in Higher Education).

As you explore our resources, programs, and services, we’ll also help identify events that are specifically related to the new student and family onboarding experience. For the full range of campus events and on-going student activities, be sure to check the Western Events Calendar, and use the Western Involvement Network (WIN). Learn how to use WIN.

Convocation Fall 2026

Western kicks off the academic year with the official welcoming ceremony, Convocation. This formal ceremony introduces new students to academic life at Western and is the first assembling of the new entering class. Our Convocation Ceremony marks a new beginning and is the first of the formal ceremonies that frame academic life at Western. The Western community looks forward to welcoming new students to the University and commemorating the first step on your academic journey here!
